Fatal error

I tried to install and activate Advertising Manager in my blog (Wordpress 2.7.1), but got the following fatal error code:
Fatal error: Cannot unset string offsets in /home/joecolson/www/www/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/advertising-manager/lib/Advman/Upgrade.php on line 426
I tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling it using a fresh download from your website, but no love.

I had the same error trying to activate Advertising Manager on 2.8. Here was my error:
